Fresh Starts

So, I don't know if you've noticed, but things are a little different around here. A good different. An I-promise-I'm-really-going-to-try-to-keep-this-up different. With a website this pretty, how could I stay away, right? (Thanks, cute husband.) I guess I should back up a little and explain how I got here. I've spent a lot of time lately praying and soul searching, in a desperate-yet-vain attempt to just happen across what I wanted to do with my life. I was questioning my identity, discouraged and exhausted while doing so, when my friend Jessie said somthing that really resonated with me. At house church one night, Jessie said, "I think one of the most common mistakes we make is that what we do for a living defines who we are."

Although it goes against everything I learned from Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins, I realized Jessie was exactly right. While 40 hours a week is a lot of time, it doesn't define who we are. Whether I'm a CEO on Wall Street (ha!) or a small business owner in Nashville, I define who I am by the opportunities I create, by the people I love, by those I serve and by the character I develop.

It's that love for people and spending time with them every day that launched me into photography. Don't get me wrong; taking photos is one of my favorite things to do. More than that, though, I love the inspiration I gain from you — whether you're a friend or a client (or both!). I love capturing you at your most joyous occasions and sharing those moments in time with you.

So here's to a new website, a new blog (mostly because we accidentally deleted the other one — whoops!) and lots of new features for my clients that I can't wait to tell you about. Most of all, here's to new beginnings, in the most appropriate time of year to do so. I don't know where this journey is going to take me yet, but I hope to show you some of my work and maybe provide a little inspiration along the way. I hope you'll join me.

We're obviously still working on perfecting a few things on the site right now. If you find a bug, will you email me or leave it in the comments so we can fix it? Thanks!
